With the rising in petrol cost, we decided to install NGV to our 1997 Satria 1.3 Carburetor. I surveyed many NGV installers; ask a few friends for recommendations but the installer location is around Batu Caves and Selayang. I prefer to have it install in Shah Alam; convenience and easier to service. I finally found a perfect installer in Shah Alam; PATCO at Section 15 (nearby to Goodyear). I went there in June requesting for the installation but I was put on their waiting list (target by August). So we waited for their call; it was quite frustrating at first as when I inquire on the status their reply was very discouraging (need to wait for the list from the management, no queue number). I began to explore on other installer nearby for my back-up plan. Then the call came in July, asking us to send our car for installation. I was grinning from ear to ear as the petrol cost is getting ridiculous (RM600 from previously RM400 per month). I sent the satria for installation but they detected a problem in the compression; therefore I need to do a top overhaul. I sent our Satria to my usual mechanics for the needed overhaul and send the car back for installation on Saturday afternoon (this time the compression is excellent) :-)
It took them 3 days to finish the installation and a day to complete the PUSPAKOM inspection (25% discount for road tax). I pick up the car on Wednesday evening and the mechanics taught me on how to start the NGV (for carburetor is a bit different as I had to start it manually by pressing the gas until the engine is about to stop and I immediately press the NGV button). I went to the nearby NGV station and fill-up; RM5.50 for a full tank (8 litres) and can last for about 100 kilometers depending on the driving condition and how light is your right foot. Well for my journey from home to the office, I do need to re-fill gas twice in a day; when I arrived in Cyberjaya and on the way back to Shah Alam. BTW it cost us RM2,700 for the NGV installation :-)
